Nyaung Shwe is home to dozens --- perhaps hundreds --- of Buddhist monasteries. Visitors are welcome to visit them anytime, but please be aware that the novice monks are usually studying during the day and should not be disturbed. You can take photos but try not to encroach and disrupt the lessons. The best times to visit and take photos are during their midday break --- from 11 am till 1 pm --- and late in the afternoon after classes are finished. Very early in the morning, between 6:00 and 7:00, when the monks are walking around town on their daily alms rounds, is also a good time to take photos. Visitors are also encouraged to bring donations of fresh fruit, notebooks, pens, or other useful items for the monks.
